Amelia is a 2009 biographical film of the life of Amelia Earhart, directed by Mira Nair and starring Hilary Swank as Earhart and Richard Gere as husband George Putnam, along with Christopher Eccleston and Ewan McGregor.It was written by Ronald Bass and Anna Hamilton Phelan, using research from sources including East to the Dawn by Susan Butler and The Sound of Wings by Mary S. Amelia Earhart - The Price of Courage

The film is about an American aviation pioneer and author, Amelia Earhart who was the first aviatrix (female pilot) to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, set many other records, wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots.
