Opinion essay is a discursive essay in which you present your personal opinion on a particular topic. Your opinion essay must be:

  • expressed clearly and supported by examples
  • present the opposing viewpoint(s) in a saparate paragraph
  • stated in present tenses
  • written in formal style (no colloquial expressions, short forms or personal examples)
  • stated with various phrases like: Firstly/First of all/In the first place/To start with/To begin with, Secondly, Thirdly, Finally/lastly/All in all/Taking everything into account/on the whole/All things considered/In conclusion/To sum up, Furthermore/What is more/Moreover/Apart from this/In addition/Besides (this), Also, Hawever, On the other hand, For instance/For example, In my opinion/In my view/To my mind/I feel strongly that/It seems to me that, etc. 

I Introduction

  • Use an attention grabbing statement, or startling fact to draw the reader's attention
  • Make sure you mention the following facts:

According to Longman: a short written document that lists your education and previous jobs, which you send to employers when you are looking for a job [= resume American English]

According to Macmillan: a document giving details of your qualifications and the jobs you have had in the past that you send to someone when you are applying for a job. The American word is resume.
