1. a period in which a break is taken from work or studies for rest, travel, or recreation US and Canadian word: vacation

9. busman’s holidaya holiday spent doing the same work as you do in your job - often used humorously

10. fly-drive holiday - a holiday arranged at a fixed price that includes your flight to a place, a car to drive while you are there, and a place to stay

11. legal holiday - an official holiday on which most government offices and banks are closed[= bank holiday British English]

12. half-holiday - British English (old-fashioned) an afternoon in which children do not have to go school [= half day]
